Set up your Windows 2000 system clock.

The Windows 2000 time service allows you to connect to a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server in your local network or a public server on the Internet. The NTP server controls the time on your Windows 2000 computer. This allows you to synchronize your computer with a central server, so the computer keeps the same time as the server. This makes it easier for network administrators to run time-sensitive processes.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Run". Enter "regedit" into the text box and click "OK". This opens your Windows 2000 registry editor.

    • 2

Navigate to the "HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters" registry key. Right-click the "ReliableTimeSource" value key and select "Modify". This opens a configuration dialog box. Enter "1" for the registry key value. Click "OK" to save the settings.

    • 3

Navigate to "HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters." Right-click the key labeled "LocalNTP" and select "Modify". Enter "1" for the value and click "OK".

    • 4

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Run". Enter "cmd" and click "OK" to open the Windows command prompt.

    • 5

Enter "net stop w32time && net start w32time" and press "Enter". This restarts your Windows time service on the local computer. Now, enter "w32tm -s" and press "Enter". This synchronizes the time with your local Windows server.
