How to Glue Rubber to Metal

Household projects often involve affixing one item to another item securely with glue. When the bond must be tight and secure, use the right adhesive designed to work properly with the materials. Glue rubber to metal using an adhesive that will adhere these two different materials with a lasting bond. After allowing the glue to set, you can feel confident that the items will stay securely attached.

Step 1

Rub the metal surface with metal sandpaper to give the surface texture.

Wipe down the surfaces of both the metal and rubber with the soft cloth to remove dirt and dust.

Apply the glue to both the rubber and metal surface in a thin layer. Use a glue, such as Amazing Goop, that is designed for adhering rubber and metal. Allow the glue to set for two to 10 minutes before placing the items together.

Step 4

Place the rubber and metal items together where you applied the glue. Take care to make the placement precise because you may not be able to reposition the items.

Step 5

Clamp the items with the C-clamps to hold them, if you desire.

Step 6

Allow the rubber and metal items to dry for at least 24 hours and up to 72 hours before using. Remove the C-clamps after the glue is secure.
