The "Show/Hide" option shows the text layout of a Word document.

Formatting marks show the structure of a word document. By showing formatting marks, the document creator can edit his work to make sure it meets guidelines. You can find additional spaces between words, tabs and hidden text. Spaces are characterized as dots. Paragraphs are displayed using the paragraph symbol. Tabs are displayed as right arrows.

      Select the "Microsoft Office" button. Click "Word Options."

      Choose "Display" from the left navigation panel.

      Check the boxes underneath "Always show these formatting marks on the screen." Click "OK."

      Click the "Home" tab.

      Click the "Show/Hide" icon. This icon is represented by the paragraph symbol and is located in the "Paragraph" box. The shortcut key is "Ctrl," "Shift" and "8."
