How Do I Put Hyperlinks Into Photoshop?

Recent editions of Adobe Photoshop give you the ability to directly create and put hyperlinks in your photo images. You no longer need a secondary program to create and include a link to another web page within your online photo images. You still need to work with three different file formats: JPEG for the original photo, PSD for creating the hyperlink and HTML for the web page. Photoshop works with all three formats.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the correct file in Photoshop by going to the "Open" command in the "File" menu and selecting the image you want in the drop-down menu.

    • 2

Save the image as a PSD file using the "Save" command in the "File" menu.

    • 3

Open the newly created PSD file using the "Open" command.

    • 4

Click on the "Image Map" command icon from the program's tool bar. Drag the new cursor while holding down on the mouse button to highlight the place where you want the hyperlink to be on the image.

      .

    • 5

Open up your computer's Internet web browser and load up the web page you want the hyperlink to go to.

    • 6

Return to the PSD file and click on the "Slices" section. Input a name for the image in the first text box, then copy the web page URL from the web browser and paste it into the text box.

    • 7

Go to the "Save Optimized As" in the File menu. Save the file as an HTML file using the "HTML and images" selection in the format menu.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have an older version of Photoshop, you need to open the PSD image in Image Ready, which was included in Photoshop packages prior to 2007. It is in this program that you create the hyperlink as described in steps 3 through 7.
