How to Install PC Linux OS 2007 on Windows Virtual PC

You can install any operating system and run it from your Windows desktop, as if you were in front of another computer, using Virtual PC 2007. Installing PCLinuxOS on a virtual machine creates an additional operating environment for Linux applications or makes for an excellent testing environment to decide if you want PCLinuxOS as your primary operating system. Virtualization turns a single operating environment into a versatile and powerful multi-platform machine.

      Open Virtual PC 2007 and click "New" from the Virtual PC Console. Select "Create a new virtual machine," and then click "Next." Choose a name for the virtual machine, then click "Next." Choose "Other" from the Operating Systems drop-down box; click "Next".

      Adjust the RAM option slider to "512MB" and click "Next." Select "A new virtual hard disk" and click "Next." Save the virtual hard disk to a directory of your choosing, and then click "Next." Review the information for accuracy and click "Finish."

      Select your new virtual machine and click "Start" in the Virtual PC Console. Click the "CD" menu and then click the "Capture ISO Image" option. Select your downloaded ISO image to start the PCLinuxOS disk in your virtual machine. Choose the "Live CD" option from the PCLinuxOS boot screen.

      Choose your keyboard layout, date, timezone and network settings to continue to the log in screen. Login as the root user with the password "root." Double-click the "Install PCLinuxOS" shortcut icon from the desktop.

      Select your hard drive, partition, bootloader and user details. Reboot the system once you have added a user account other than the root account. Choose Linux from the GRUB bootloader to boot into your PCLinuxOS desktop.
