An RGB cable, also called a composite cable, is a common way of transferring analog video signals from a video source such as a DVD player onto a video display device such as a TV. An RGB cable typically consist of three wires: red, yellow and white. Video signals pass through one wire (yellow), and audio signals pass through the white and red wires. Knowing how to use a composite video cable can help you get more satisfaction out of your TV.

      Locate the video and audio output jacks at the back or front of the audio-video player such as a DVD player. Take note of the color codes (yellow, red, white) of each output jack.

      Connect the RGB cable to the player by plugging each color-coded cable into its matching color-coded jack. Push the plugs with enough pressure for a snug fit.

      Locate the audio and video input jacks at the back of the TV. Plug the RGB cable into the corresponding color-coded jacks at the back of the TV. The yellow, red and white wires should plug into the same colored input jacks.

      Open your TV set, turn on the DVD player and load a DVD movie into its drive. View the movie to check your connections.
