How Do I Get Rid of A Breathing Obsession?

Breathing obsession is a type of OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder. This anxiety disorder is normally characterized by unwanted or uncontrollable thoughts and habits that you feel compelled to perform. When you have breathing obsession, you will recognize the obsessive thoughts as well as the compulsive behaviors. Although you know these are irrational, you still feel the need to entertain them no matter how much you want to break free. There is a way to treat and get rid of this obsession; treatment may take some time, but the efforts are worth it.

    Instructions

Go to your family doctor and let him know about your symptoms. Breathing obsession makes you pay inordinate attention to your breathing. You will constantly feel like you are in a state of fear. This compulsion is a common symptom of your OCD, which manifests as constant checking and watching of things.

Complete an initial evaluation. Your therapist will evaluate you mentally and physically before recommending the right treatment.

      • 3

Follow through with therapy. Your therapist will help you confront your breathing obsession as well as the related fears that you are dealing with.

      • 4

Take the medications prescribed by your therapist. There are a few types of medications that are effective for treating breathing obsessions, mostly antidepressants like Prozac or Paxil that aid in calming down the anxieties that trigger the obsession.

Find a support group that focuses on your breathing obsession disorder. People who are diagnosed with this OCD may find that many people in their lives do not understand their compulsions. Your support group can help by introducing you to other people who are going through similar difficulties.
