How to Make a Congratulations Banner
Whether your son's team just won the big game or your daughter just graduated from college, special times in life call for special ways to congratulate the ones you love. Add to the celebration by making a fabric congratulations sign. This project requires only minimal sewing and results in an eye-catching banner that is sure to bring a smile to everyone's face. Things You'll Need
- Solid-colored cotton-weave fabric, 3 yds.
- Tape measure
- Scissors
- Iron
- Sewing machine
- Thread
- 6 wooden dowels, 1/2 in. diameter, 3 ft. in length
- Dowel connector pieces
- 2 tablecloth weights
- Fabric glue
- Washable fabric pen
- Large letter stencils
- 3 yds. felt
- Cording

Measure and cut the solid-colored fabric to measure 9 ft. by 2 ft.

Fold the edges over 1/4 in. and iron. Keep the previous fold in place and fold over another 1/2 in. Press this fold as well.

Sew along the fold. Leave the ends open for insertion of the wooden dowels.

Connect the dowels using the dowel connectors so that you have two 9-ft poles.

Insert the poles at the top and bottom of the banner.

Glue the tablecloth weights to the bottom of the banner on the back.

Stencil the letters for the word "congratulations" onto the felt. If you are making a banner to celebrate a graduation, you could also write phrases such as "Congratulations Graduates" or mention the school's mascot name, such as "Congratulations Sun Devils."

Cut out the felt letters.

Lay the letters out on the banner so that they are equally spaced and arranged as desired.

Glue the letters into place with fabric glue.

Cut an 11-ft piece of cording and wrap 4 in. to 5 in. of the cording around the ends of the top poles. Glue the cording onto the pole with fabric glue.

Wait at least 24 hours for the glue to completely dry, then hang the banner.

For a graduation banner, use the school colors for the banner and lettering.
