Instructions

    • 1

Examine the reference image for proportions of various body parts such as the head, torso, arms and legs. Draw a small circle for the head on your paper with a pencil. Include lightly drawn horizontal facial guidelines. These will help you to correctly place the eyes, nose and mouth later.

    • 2

Draw in the shape of the torso, arms and legs by referring back and forth from your image to your drawing. Compare the proportions of what you have drawn to the image. Erase and draw again if necessary. These are all just beginning shapes that will be refined as the detail is added. Draw in guidelines for the six-pack stomach muscles and pectoral chest muscles.

    • 3

Draw in the musculature details such as the biceps, forearms, neck, stomach, thigh and calf muscles. Continue to refer to the source image for shapes, proportions and positioning. Darken the outline of the body and muscles when you have the proportions correct.

    • 4

Sketch in lightly the hands, sandals and facial features. Use the guidelines on the head for positioning of the eyes, nose and mouth. Include the trademark line that crisscrosses Kratos' face and body. Darken these sketch lines when they are to your liking. Sketch in lightly the ragged loincloth, belt and any other accessories you wish to add. Darken the lines when completed. Holding your pencil at a 45 degree angle, shade around muscles, curves and folds in cloth.

Tips & Warnings

  • Press the pencil harder during shading when moving away from the imagined light source to create a more believable gradation.
