How to Make My D-Link Wireless Router Secure

D-Link routers allow computers, printers and other devices with wireless or Ethernet capability to share information among one another, as well as share an Internet connection. However, routers with wireless access leave networks exposed to access by unwanted intruders, who can use your Internet connection without your knowledge or pass viruses into your system. Securing your network router should be a priority.

Instructions

1. Visit "http://192.168.0.1" in your PC's Web browser.

2. Enter your user name and password in the prompt that appears. If you never set login information for your router, just enter "admin" as the user name.

3. Click the "Wireless" tab in the window that appears.

4. Choose the encryption scheme you wish to use in the window that appears. According to eSecurity Planet, the currently recommended wireless security protocol is the WPA, or Wi-Fi Protected Access, encryption method.

5. Enter your desired password in the field below the encryption method field. Click "Apply" to save changes.
