Use the native burner to write files to a DVD in Windows XP.

The Windows XP Pro operating system comes preinstalled with native burning software to aid users in copying files to a CD or DVD. While the software does not support copying DVDs directly for a standalone DVD player, it can burn a variety of files to a DVD for backup or for transferring files between computers. The burner is a native Windows XP Pro utility.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click the "Start" button and click "Explore." The Windows Explorer program will appear. Use the folder tree to open the folder that holds the files you want to burn.

    • 2

Insert the blank DVD into your computer's disc tray and close the drive. Wait for the disc to be recognized by the drive. Click on the "Open CD folder using Windows Explorer" option in the "CD Drive" window that appears. An empty disc folder will appear.

    • 3

Drag the files you want to burn into the empty disc folder. Click on the "Write these files to CD" option to open the CD Wizard. Type in a name for the disc and click "Next" to begin burning the files to the DVD. This process may take several minutes, depending on the speed of your disc drive.

Click "Finish" in the "Completing the CD Writing" window to eject the DVD.
