Make sure the game cartridge is completely inserted into the appropriate slot. If it is not, the system can lock up even when an image appears on the screen.

If the DS Lite does not emit any sound, adjust the volume control. You may have accidentally turned the volume down. If you are using headphones, make sure they are adequately inserted into the headphone jack.

If the screen stays blank after you turn on the DS Lite, check to see that the battery is charged. The battery may not have enough juice to power the system.
