Cake slices made from washcloths make great favors for the guests of a bridal shower, wedding shower, home-spa party or even a luncheon. You can coordinate the washcloth colors with the event or season, but using a white cloth for the "cake's" filling will look realistic and will go well with any other colors. Serve washcloth cake slices with a small collection of guest soaps on the side to make the gift even more special.
Fold each washcloth in half, and then in half again lengthwise, lining up the corners for a neat, crisp fold. Smooth out any wrinkles with your hands.
2
Place the folded white washcloth on top of the colored one, lining up the open edges on the same side. Secure a safety pin through both cloths at one end.
3
Hold the pinned end and tightly roll the cloths together. Place a straight pin into the end to hold it temporarily. Shape the roll with your fingers, making it slightly oval, until it looks like a slice of rolled cake.
4
Cut a length of ribbon approximately 12 inches long and wrap it around the cake slice. Tie the ends in a bow at the top of the slice or in a simple knot at the bottom if you prefer. Remove the straight pin.
5
Embellish the washcloth cake with edible items for a more realistic look. Flowers made from frosting and allowed to harden, sprinkles or dragees are a few good choices.
Tips & Warnings
If using washcloth cake slices as party favors, place them in small plastic "to go" boxes purchased from a favorite restaurant or bakery to complete the look.
Serve actual rolled cake at your event to reinforce the theme.
Make washcloth cupcakes by rolling just one cloth in the same method and placing it in a colorful cupcake liner.
