How to Wipe the BlackBerry Pearl & Reset the OS

BlackBerry's security wipe feature is a great way to reset the phone to factory settings as if it had just come out of the box. Wiping the handheld clears all personal data and files from the phone and the information cannot be recovered. When selling, trading or passing on the device, this is a handy feature to have. The phone will also wipe all the information if the password is entered incorrectly too many times, which gives the owner peace of mind should anything happen to the phone. Follow these simple steps to complete a security wipe.

• BlackBerry phone

Instructions

1. Click the BlackBerry button from the home screen. This button is located immediately to the right of the green "Talk" button. Locate and click the "Options" icon, which looks like a wrench.

2. Scroll down the list and click "Security Options." Locate and click "Security Wipe."

3. Click "Emails, Contacts, Etc." or "User Installed Applications" or "Media Card" to wipe those files. To completely wipe the phone, put a check in the boxes beside all three.

4. Type "blackberry" in the box near the bottom of the screen.

5. Click "Wipe" and all the selected files will be completely erased from the phone.
