How to Rent a DVD Projector

How to Rent a DVD Projector thumbnail
Create a home movie theater with a rented projector.

When you rent a DVD projector, you can turn the wall of your house into a backyard (or indoor) movie theater, show a business presentation without needing to rely on your laptop screen or run a DVD slideshow of photographs for a wedding or other event. The key to a successful projection rental is choosing the best-sized DVD projector for your needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Count the number of guests expected and measure your projector screen. Projectors come in sizes from 1000 lumen to above 6000 lumen. The higher the lumen number, the bigger screen you can use and the larger audience you can have. For a small movie party, you don't need a large projector (perhaps 1000-plus lumen), but for a gathering of 200 people, for example, you'll need at least a 3000-lumen projector.

    • 2

Browse projector rental companies using Projector Central's guide to find outlets near you (see Resources). You can also use the telephone directory.

    • 3

Call the local companies. Let them know what size party you're planning and when you need the projector. Explain the party's time of day and the amount of light that will be in the room with the projector. Ask the salesperson how many lumens you'll need. This should be close to the amount you estimated earlier; if it isn't, they may be trying to sell you more than you need. Ask the salesperson why he is recommending a stronger projector. Ask about their policies on deposits, equipment pickup/return and instructions or technical support. If you've never rented a projector, you'll need someone to show you how to operate it safely.

Compare rates at several companies. Keep a list of each potential projector rental, its lumen output and price.

    • 5

Call back the rental company you believe offers the best deal. Confirm the DVD projector rental and pay the deposit with a credit card.

Tips & Warnings

  • Return the projector on time and in good condition to avoid a fee.

  • Using a smaller projector than you need may mean poor quality (lack of sharpness) or a presentation that's hard to see in low light.
