How to Sew Boxer Shorts
Boxer shorts are loose fitting shorts used either as undergarments or as a pair of shorts. A very loose and long version of the boxer short is used by many sports teams as part of the uniform because of their comfort. The boxer style is used for both male and female undergarments. The easiest boxer to make is from a pattern purchased at a local fabric store or online.

Instructions
-
-
1
Remove the pattern from the package. Cut out the appropriate pattern pieces.
-
2
Fold the knit fabric in half. Make sure to fold a patterned fabric so the pattern is to the inside of the fold.
-
-
3
Place the pattern pieces along the fold line of the fabric. Watch the arrow on the pattern to make sure the pattern is attached in the proper manner. Pin the pattern into place.
-
4
Cut out the pattern. Mark the front center with a disappearing sewing marker.
-
5
Follow the instructions of the sewing pattern to pin and sew the pattern pieces together. Most generally the two front edges, then the back, then the leg seams are sewn. Pin and sew each seam separately to avoid confusion.
-
6
Turn the leg hem up one finger width and pin into place. Repeat the process one more time. Remove the pins from the first turning and place them in the second. Sew a seam around the hem to secure in place.
-
7
Turn the top edge of the fabric in to make a 1/4-inch seam. Pin into place. Sew the seam at 3/8-inch.
-
8
Fold the sewn seam down one inch to form a casing. Pin into place. Begin sewing at the seam in the center of the back. Sew a seam 7/8-inch from the outside edge around the top of the boxer. Stop 1 1/2-inch from the start of the seam.
-
9
Cut a piece of 3/4-inch non-roll elastic two inches shorter than the waist measurement. Place a large safety pin on the end of the elastic. Thread the elastic through the casing. Make sure to hold the loose end so it does not disappear into the casing.
-
10
Overlap the two ends of the elastic 3/4 to 1-inch. Pin the two ends together. Sew the ends together by sewing across the top, bottom and both edges of the overlap.
-
11
Slip the sewn elastic into the casing and adjust the fabric. Pin the casing opening closed. Sew along the edge to match the 7/8-inch seam.
