How to Make Curls Hold

Springy, romantic curls make a nice change from popular straight hairstyles, but some hair types do not hold curls well. Humid conditions and long days can result in droopy curls or no wave at all. Make your curls hold longer with the right styling products and some good styling tips. Regardless of your hair length or type, you can maintain your wavy tresses without a lot of extra fuss.

Things You'll Need

  • Lightweight conditioner
  • Towel
  • Volumizing mousse
  • Wide-toothed comb
  • Blow dryer
  • Hot rollers
  • Curling iron
  • Hair spray

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hair every two days and use a lightweight conditioner that will not weigh your hair down. Rinse conditioner away with cool/warm water.

    • 2

Dry your hair by wrapping the hair with a soft towel and giving the hair a gentle squeeze.

    • 3

Squirt a dime-sized amount of volumizing mousse into the palm of your hand. Work the volumizer through your hair, starting at the ends and working up to the root.

    • 4

Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb. Do not use a fine-toothed comb, which can cause your hair to frizz.

    • 5

Flip your hair upside down and blow-dry it starting at the scalp and working out to the ends. Use your hands and fingers to separate the hair while you dry it. Hair should be completely dry before you begin curling it.

    • 6

Curl your hair using a hot roller or a curling iron. Spray your entire head of hair after you roll it completely. If using a curling iron, spray the hair after each curl.

    • 7

Arrange the curls with your fingers or use a pick to fluff out the curls. Do not brush the hair completely; this will diminish your curls.

    • 8

Spray your entire head with hair spray. Allow the hairspray to dry for one minute; then flip your head over and spray the underside.
