How to Determine High School GPA

How to Determine High School GPA thumbnail
GPA is used to measure school performance.

Grade point average, or GPA, is often the gold standard measurement of numbers looked at by parents, teachers and students in high schools around the United States. This number, whether it is important to some colleges or not, is still an indication of the overall performance a student has accomplished over a semester, year or high school career. You can determine your GPA by noting all of your grades and averaging them with a simple formula.

Instructions

    • 1

Record the letter equivalent of all of your grades for a year, class, semester or career.

    • 2

      Mark each A as a 4.00, each A- as a 3.67 and each A+ as a 4.33. Do the same with each B rank (2.67, 3.00, 3.33), C (1.67, 2.00, 2.33), D (0.67, 1.00, 1.33) and F (0.00).

    • 3

Add the numbers for each of your grades.

    • 4

Divide the total from Step 3 by the number of grades recorded to determine your grade point average.
