Save

Though PlayStation 3 is widely known for its gaming quality and capabilities, the console can also be used as a media player. PS3 owners can copy photographs, music files and movies from their PC to their gaming console easily by using a USB Flash drive. The amount of large files you can transfer will depend on the size of the PS3's hard drive.

Copy Files to Flash Drive

  • Insert a Flash drive into the computer's USB port.

  • Locate the files you want to transfer from the computer's hard drive to the PS3 console. Select multiple files by holding down the "CTRL" button on the keyboard and selecting individual files with the mouse. Right-click the selected files and choose the "Send To" option. Click the "Removable Disk" option to copy the files to the Flash drive automatically.

  • Double-click the green, removable hardware icon on the desktop toolbar. Click "Stop" and safely eject the Flash drive.

Copy Files to PS3

  • Turn on the PS3 console. If there is a disc in the console, remove it before proceeding. When the main menu appears, insert the Flash drive into one of the gaming console's USB ports.

  • Click the left arrow button, and select the "Photo, Music or Video" option. Transfer specific files (i.e. music, video or photo files) to each specific category. Highlight the desired category. Scroll to the "USB Device (USB Flash Memory)" option, and click the "Triangle" button on the PS3 controller.

  • Click "Display All" to view the files and folders on the Flash drive. Highlight the folder or file you want to transfer, and click the triangle button. Click "Copy" by pressing the "X" button on the PS3 controller. Repeat Step 2 and Step 3 for each file or folder transfer.
