Footnotes are used to cite an author’s work or to expand on a specific point in your text. Whether you plan on giving a PowerPoint presentation in an academic setting or business environment, you should always reference outside sources by inserting footnotes at the bottom of a slide. In a few simple steps, you can add footnotes by utilizing the program’s toolbar options.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to “Start,” click “All Programs” and open Microsoft PowerPoint.

    • 2

Open your desired PowerPoint file and locate the specific slide where you want to include footnotes.

    • 3

Click the “Insert” tab and select the “Header & Footer” option.

    • 4

Click the “Slide” tab on the “Header and Footer” pop-up menu. Next, check the box next to "Footer.” Insert your footnotes in the text box and click “Apply.” You can also apply the same footnote to every slide by clicking the “Apply to All” button.
