How to Make Windows Picture Viewer the Default

In Windows 7, Windows Photo Viewer is the default program that photos launch automatically with when you click them, unless you installed a third-party photo viewing or editing program and made that your default program. When you connect media devices such as digital cameras to your computer, photos are displayed using your photo program. If you want to revert to using Windows Photo Viewer as your default program, you can make system changes anytime you want.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the Default Programs controls by clicking the "Start" menu and clicking "Default Programs."

    • 2

Click "Windows Photo Viewer" under "Programs," and then click the "Set this program as default" option.

    • 3

Click "OK" to save your changes. Windows Photo Viewer is now the default photo program.
