Microwave bacon on a paper plate to avoid a greasy mess.

The time it takes to cook bacon in the microwave will depend on the thickness of the bacon slices and the power of your microwave. Bacon slices will brown and crisp in a microwave if you cook them properly. Microwaving bacon cuts back on the time it takes to cook bacon and it can also reduce the greasy mess. Instead of cooking bacon on your dinnerware, you can place it on paper plates to avoid washing dishes. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

    • 1

Cover an unprinted and white paper plate with paper towels.

    • 2

Place bacon strips over the paper towels. Lay the strips side by side and do not overlap them or allow the strips to hang off the edge of the plate.

    • 3

Cover the strips of bacon with paper towels. This will keep your microwave clean because the grease will not splatter. Cook the bacon on high in the microwave for four to six minutes. For best results, microwave two slices of bacon for one minute and 40 seconds, three slices for two minutes and 30 seconds or 1 lb. of bacon for 15 minutes.

    • 4

Check on the bacon while it cooks. If your microwave does not have a turntable, rotate the bacon after it cooks for half the time. Continue to microwave the bacon in 30-second intervals until it appears crisp and fully cooked. The bacon will turn golden-brown.

    • 5

Remove the bacon from the microwave carefully once it appears crisp. Place it on a new paper plate covered in fresh paper towels. Blot the bacon with paper towels to remove excess grease.

Tips & Warnings

  • Thin bacon slices will cook faster than thicker slices. Always check on the bacon while it cooks.

  • Handle the paper plate with care. After you microwave the bacon, the paper plate may become soft and greasy.

  • Use paper plates that are microwave safe.
