Send your next resume on a DVD.

These digital resumes include video interviews with you that describe your qualifications and why you are the perfect candidate for the job. Instructions

    • 1

Rent a digital camera or web camera for the video. Do not use low-end web cams as your video may look blurry and amateur.

    • 2

Write down a list of guide questions to answer during the video resume. For example, use the question, "What expertise can I bring to my position in your company?" Stay away from questions that do not pertain to your desired position.

    • 3

Dress professionally for the video. Wear business or business casual attire. Groom yourself for the video to put the best possible foot forward.

    • 4

Place the camera on a tripod or ask someone to hold it for you. Do not try holding the camera in one hand and pointing it yourself.

    • 5

Stand or sit in front of a simple backdrop such as a single-colored wall in your home.

    • 6

Turn off any televisions, radios or noise-making devices during the shoot. Avoid shooting outside as wind and other ambient noise can make it hard for you to be heard on the video.

    • 7

Begin filming. Answer the questions as if they have been asked by an off-screen interviewer. Begin each answer by working the question into your response such as "The expertise I can bring to a position at your company includes..."

    • 8

Repeat the process two or three times so you can have several different takes to choose from when creating the finished product.

    • 9

Shoot additional footage of your work if you are using the video as a business card to show prospective clients your completed design work.

    • 10

Upload the videos to your computer and use free video editing software such as iMovie on the Mac and Windows Live Video Movie Maker on the PC.

    • 11

Edit together the best take for each question into your video. Add your additional footage as well as title cards at the start and end of the video with your name, phone number and email address.

    • 12

Insert a DVD or CD into your computer. Export the video onto the DVD using the option located in the video editing program.

    • 13

Insert CD label sheets into your printer. Type up your name, address, phone number and email address and print them onto the labels.

    • 14

Affix a label to your DVD or CD. Slip the disc into a protective sleeve and send it in place of a resume.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add a digital copy of a traditional resume onto the disc so recruiters can print and share your qualifications with others in the company.

  • Keep the length of the video under five minutes.

  • Show your personality in the video but stay professional. Do not perform songs or show video of your pets to recruiters.

  • Stay away from overediting your video with different cuts and effects.

  • Inquire at a prospective employer as to whether or not they accept video resumes before sending yours along. Some may not accept them due to discrimination laws within the company.
