How to Fix a PowerPoint Association

You can manually change file extension associations.

Windows uses a file association system in which a file extension will open with the program associated with it. For example, clicking on a .ppt file launches PowerPoint to open it. When you install new programs, these programs may change your file association settings, launching other programs when you click on a .ppt file. You can reset the file association. To perform this procedure, you need to have one PowerPoint file available.

Instructions

1. Find any PowerPoint file.

2. Right-click on the file.

3. Select "Open With."

4. Choose "Microsoft PowerPoint."

5. Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file."

6. Click "OK."
