How to Add Distortion With a Digitech RP50

The Digitech RP50 is a low-cost modeling guitar processor and multi-effect pedal. The pedal is capable of emulating 11 different guitar amplifier models and 20 guitar effects. The Digitech RP50 does not have any overdrive or distortion pedals available to users. The only way to add distortion with the Digitech RP50 is by using the amp models that are prebuilt with overdrive or distortion.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "Edit/Effect" button on the Digitech RP50 until the "Amp Model" light is turned on.

    • 2

Press the "Value" button until the display screen says "r1-r9." This is the "Rectifier" amp model. This adds distortion similar to a Mesa Boogie rectifier amp. This is a heavier distortion that is more common with metal and hard rock guitar. Each number is a slightly different model of the same basic amp.

    • 3

Press the "Value" button until it displays "S1-S9." This is the "British Stack" amp model. This model is based off of Marshall amps. This level of distortion is used predominately in hard rock.

    • 4

Press the "Value" button until it displays "U1-U9." This is the "Crunchy Tube" amp model. This model adds a small amount of distortion. This level of distortion is more common with classic rock.

    • 5

Press the "Value" button until it displays "F1-F9." This is the "Vintage Fuzz" amp model. This model adds a little more distortion than the "Crunchy Tube" model.

    • 6

Press the "Value" button until it displays "91-99." This is the "High Gain" amp model. This model adds a large amount of distortion. It is more appropriate for metal guitar.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Digitech RP50 was designed as a low-cost choice for a modeling guitar processor. It does not have the processing capability of more expensive units. The amp models, while similar, are not exact matches for the actual amps being imitated.
