How to Make Homemade Wax Strips

Waxing at home leaves the skin smooth and hair-free.

Removing unwanted hair is a concern for both women and men. Many hair removal options are available, including threading, shaving, bleaching and waxing. Waxing lasts longer than shaving, threading or bleaching and you can save money by making your own wax strips and using them at home rather than paying to have it done at a salon or spa.

Things You'll Need

• 2 1/4 cups sugar
• Sauce pan
• Wooden spoon
• 1/4 tsp. citric acid
• 1/2 tsp. glycerine
• Hot pad
• Wax paper
• Square plastic container
• Rubber spatula
• Scissors
• Plastic wrap
• Baby powder

Instructions

1. 

   Table sugar is used in homemade hair-removal wax.

   Dump the sugar into the sauce pan and add 1 cup water. Stir the mixture, while heating on low, until the sugar melts and dissolves into the water.

2. Dissolve 1/4 tsp. citric acid in 1/2 cup warm water. Add the dissolved citric acid to the sugar water in the sauce pan and stir to mix.

3. Turn off the heat under the sauce pan and move the pan to a hot pad on the counter top. Stir in the glycerine then allow the homemade wax to cool down until it's warm to the touch.

4. Line the bottom of a square plastic container with wax paper, placing the paper wax side up. Spread the homemade wax on the wax paper, using the rubber spatula, in strips about 3 inches long by 2 inches wide. Cut plastic wrap in individual strips to fit over each homemade wax strip and lay the plastic wrap over them.

5. Keep the homemade wax strips in the refrigerator until ready to use. Warm these for use as needed.

Tips & Warnings

• Leave the plastic wrap on the hair wax strips when using so you have something to grasp when removing the wax strip.

• Homemade wax strips keep in the refrigerator for a few months.
