How do I Make a Tiki Bar Bamboo Hut?

After his design technique, the home tiki bar bamboo hut became a fad that lasted well into the 1960s. Although the style later fell from popularity it has not died out completely. Instructions

    • 1

Sand and stain all wood surfaces of the bar with water sealer.

    • 2

Staple woven palm tree thatching to the front and sides of the bar.

    • 3

Nail half-cut bamboo poles to the edges and corners of the bar, using 2-inch nails.

    • 4

Drill four holes in each of the four corners at the top of the bar using a drill and a drill bit the same size as the bamboo poles. four- or 6-inch poles are needed to withstand the weight of the roof.

    • 5

Apply construction adhesive to the ends of the bamboo poles before placing them inside the holes. You may have to struggle with the poles a little to fit them in the holes.

    • 6

Measure and cut a piece of 2-by-6-inch lumber to attach to the two bamboo poles in the front of the bar. These will be the two poles that are the furthest apart. Nail the lumber to the top portion of the poles. Repeat with the opposite side.

    • 7

Attach an eye hook to each of the four corners of the 2-by-6 lumber. The roof will be attached to these eyes with a hook.

    • 8

Cut two pieces of ¾ inch pressure treated plywood 3 inches longer than the distance between the two front bamboo poles.

    • 9

Attach the two pieces of plywood together with a piano hinge to create the roof. This will allow you to collapse the roof later.

    • 10

Attach woven palm tree thatching, palm leaves or bamboo poles to the two plywood pieces.

    • 11

Attach a hook to the back of each of the plywood pieces.
