Insert clip art into your OpenOffice documents.

OpenOffice is a freeware suite of office applications offered by Sun Microsystems. It is intended to offer a free alternative to commercial office products like Microsoft Office or Corel WordPerfect. The word-processing application in the OpenOffice suite is called Writer. Writer has all the features you would expect from a professional-level program. If, for example, you want to assemble clip art, images and preexisting text into a Writer document from another source, the process for doing so is quick and easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Load any images, clip-art or text files you want to insert into your Writer document onto your computer.

    • 2

Start OpenOffice. In the dialog that appears, click on the "Text Document" button to open the Writer application.

    • 3

Select "Insert" from the menu and choose "File." In the dialog that appears, make sure the file type is set to "All Files." Then browse to one of the text files you want to insert, select it and click "Open." The file text will be inserted directly behind wherever you had the cursor.

    • 4

Repeat Step 3 wherever you want to insert a text document in your Writer document. You can of course select and move this text if you change your mind about the location.

    • 5

Select "Insert" from the menu and choose "Picture." From the options, choose "From File." In the dialog that appears, go to one of the images or clip-art that you want to use, select it and choose "Open." The image will appear where you had your cursor. You can drag it where you want and the text will move to make room for it. You can also drag the corners to resize the image. Save your work.
