How to Reformat a microSD Memory Card

Since many digital cameras and cell phones do not have enough space to use an SD card, they use a smaller version of the same card, which is called a microSD card. If this card begins saying that it needs to be reformatted, the Windows 7 operating system has a built-in reformatting tool. This tool will reformat the card, allowing you to use it without any of the problems from before.

Things You'll Need

• MicroSD-to-SD-card converter
• Computer with SD card port

Instructions

1. Slide the microSD card into the microSD-to-SD-card converter. No computer has a microSD card slot, so you have to use a converter to get it to recognize your card.

2. Select the formatting tool. Click "Start" in the lower left corner. Click "Control Panel," "System and Security," then "Administrative Tools." Double-click the "Computer Management" icon.

3. Look under "Storage" in the "Computer Management's" left pane. Click "Disk Management."

4. Right-click the microSD drive and click "Format."

5. Press the "Format" button to start the process.

Tips & Warnings

• Nearly every microSD card comes with a microSD-to-SD-card converter.

• Formatting the card will erase all data.
