How to Activate the "Pokemon" Online Game
The Pokemon video game series, developed by Game Freak Studios, is an immensely popular franchise that saw its first installment released by Nintendo in 1995. The success of the initial games inspired a number of spinoffs including numerous other video games, animated cartoon series and movies, manga comics and trading card games. However, the video games themselves remain incredibly popular and maintain a large, active fan base. With the advent of online gaming, there are many ways to play Pokemon online with the Nintendo DS.

Using Nintendo DS Wireless Communications to Play Pokemon Wirelessly

Enter the upstairs level of any Pokemon center in the diamond, pearl, platinum, heart gold or soul silver game and walk up to the desk.

Press the "A" button to talk to the attendant. She will notify you that Wireless Communications will be launched and then she'll ask you if it is all right to save your game to do so. Select the "Yes" option.

Enter the Union room. From here, you can battle or trade Pokemon with any nearby player who has also entered the room by walking up to his character and pressing the "A" button to display game play options.
Using the Nintendo DS Wi-Fi Connection to Play Pokemon online

Connect the Nintendo DS to the Internet. For this, you will need to have a wireless router in the vicinity, whether it is yours or part of a public connection. From the main menu of Pokemon, select "Nintendo WFC Settings." Selecting this option will guide you through the process of enabling the Wi-Fi capabilities of your DS.

Select "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Settings" and then select "Connection 1" on the screen that follows. The Nintendo DS allows you to save connection settings for three different wireless connections.

Select the "Search for an Access Point" option from the Connection 1 screen. This will tell the DS to search for wireless connections and display them on your screen so that you may choose one.

Select one of the wireless networks, whether it be your own private network or a public network. If there is a password, enter it. If the network is unsecured, you will not need a password. After you select a network, the DS will test the connection. If its test is successful, the DS will be connected to the Internet.

Enter any Pokemon center in the game and walk down the stairs to the basement level. From here, battle or trade Pokemon with anyone you have traded friend codes with as long as she is also connected to the Internet. There is also a global trade station (or GTS) in Goldenrod city, where you can trade with anyone in the world, regardless of friend codes.
