Correct the USB port problems on your Mac system.

Mac computer systems, like Windows computers, have a select amount of USB ports installed. This allows you to connect outside devices to the Apple computer, such as keyboards, hard drives and web cameras. However, if the Mac computer is not detecting the USB connection on start up, there is a slight issue with the USB drive. This is a common issue that occurs on Mac systems and only takes a few moments to correct.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the USB device from the computer for a few moments, then reconnect the equipment to the computer. If this corrects the issue, a removable device icon automatically appears on the desktop.

    • 2

Check the user manual for the USB hardware to make sure it is, in fact, Mac accepted. If the hardware is not accepted by a Mac, the USB port is unable to read the equipment.

    • 3

Power down the Mac computer and let it sit for a few minutes. This resets the internal setting on the computer. Restart the system, then connect the USB hardware to a USB port.

    • 4

Disconnect the equipment from any USB hub you are using on the Mac computer. Some equipment does not function correctly with a USB hub, causing the Mac to not detect the equipment.
