The use of photographs, pictures and paintings is always an interesting and attractive way of decorating a space. Depending on the style and size of the artwork, it can change the appearance of a room and improve its entire look. While photographs can be displayed in a simple, frame-less piece of glass, the best results in interior design are achieved by using different, and visually appealing, frames. These frames can be made from various materials such as plastic, wood and metal.
Things You'll Need
- Measuring tape
- Metal bar
- Circular saw
- Miter saw
- Metal L corners
- Power drill
- Frame hardware
Mark the lengths needed for your picture frame on a metal bar. For example, if you need a 7 inch by 12 inch frame, you will mark two 7-inch pieces and two 12-inch pieces.
Cut the required lengths with a circular saw, carefully and precisely. Be sure to follow the necessary safety precautions and use protective equipment.
Cut the ends of the four metal bars at a 45 degree angle, using a circular or miter saw. Make sure to use a strong diamond tip blade no matter what type of a power saw you use.
Connect the four parts of the frame with metal L corners and matching screws. Use a carbon tip power drill to make the holes for the screws first and then attach the L shapes.
Use a screwdriver to tighten the screws firmly, thus making the metal frame strong and sturdy.
Add the remaining parts of the frame hardware to your frame, such as spring clips on the sides, clips for holding glass and hanging wire holders.
Tips & Warnings
- You can paint your metal frame with special car spray-paint color if you want to.
- Always wear thick leather gloves when working with metal, to protect your hands from sharp metal edges.
