How do I Describe Disrespect in an Employee Review? thumbnail
Employers assess employees to help encourage positive performance.

Conducting an employee review is part of your job as the owner, supervisor, manager or boss in a business. If you supervise employees, then you will most likely need to review them. And it's possible that not all your employees will receive a positive review from you. For example, if one of your employees has been disrespectful in any way, include this information in the review and describe the circumstances.

Instructions

    • 1

Come to the employee review prepared. Being prepared helps you accurately phrase your thoughts in a productive, rather than confrontational, way.

    • 2

Start the review by going over the previously conducted review. Also have notes from the previous review. If disrespect has been an ongoing problem, mention that it was previously discussed.

    • 3

Start by naming the employee's positive traits. Explain what the employee does well before talking about his disrespectful behavior. Otherwise, the employee could become defensive or offended, which will make the review less productive.

    • 4

Describe the circumstances of the employee's disrespectful behavior from your point of view and that of customers and coworkers. Be straightforward. Do not to pass judgment or imply that you believe someone else's perception over the employee's. Stick with the facts.

    • 5

Allow the employee to speak. Once you describe the disrespectful behavior, give the employee the chance to explain his point of view. Be a good listener and ask follow-up questions when you want further clarification.

    • 6

Discuss with the employee how you can help him improve his disrespectful behavior. Part of the review process is offering solutions for potential problems that could lead to disciplinary action.
