How to Take a Driver's Permit Test
Different states have different requirements for driver's permits, however, the concept is still the same: drivers permits are temporary licenses for individuals who are not old enough to legally obtain a driver's license (normally between ages 15 and 17, depending on the state). Thus, the test does not involve any actual driving. Instead, the test is written, frequently with upwards of 20 to 25 multiple choice questions that deal with the basics of driving. A permit will allow the individual to practicing driving for a year with a licensed driver.

1
Study your state's permit booklet. All states' Department of Motor Vehicles (DMVs) should issue a book by which prospective permit holders can study. Because individuals seeking their learner's permit can not legally drive, the permit test can not be too extensive. Thus, a thorough reading of your state's literature on the subject can help you narrow down what fields you need to know.

Observe other drivers. When riding as a passenger in a car, notice both the basic procedures of driving within the vehicle and also regulations of the road, passing, stop signs, etc... Don't hesitate to ask questions, especially of those who will eventually be observing you when you get your permit!

Take the test. In general, learner's permit tests are not too difficult (only 20-25 multiple choice questions), so do not stress too much. They are there to ensure that you know the basics of driving. However, be sure to come prepared (including a pencil and any necessary identification information) and schedule your test time in advance.
