How to Restore NTLDR in Windows XP

If your computer is giving you an "NTLDR is missing" error when you start the operating system, one or both of the NTLDR files on your computer is damaged or was deleted. These files help Windows XP boot up whenever you turn on your computer and are required for the boot process to be successful.

      Put your Windows XP disc into your computer, then restart the machine. Once you see "Press any key to boot from CD" appear, press any key.

      Wait for the Windows welcome screen to appear, then press the "R" key. This opens the "Recovery Console."

      Press "1," then "Enter." Type in your Administrator username and password and press "Enter."

      Type the following commands, pressing "Enter" after each one: "copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\" and "copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\."

      Restart your computer.
