How to Sell Record Albums on the Web

How to Sell Record Albums on the Web thumbnail
Record albums sell for a great deal of money if they are rare.

Many record albums are worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars if they are scarce, or produced by a best-selling artist, particularly artists from the 1950's and early 1960's. You may have no use for record albums, particularly if you are not familiar with the artist and don't have a phonograph. Selling them for profit is an excellent way to create some extra income. Many people pursue it as a full-time hobby or career.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit an online auction site such as eBay.com, Gemm.com or Halfprice.com to register for a free account. (see resources)

    • 2

Select the record album you want to sell and click on the area where the website allows you to post items for sale to the public.

    • 3

Take detailed pictures of the album and its jacket. Letting people see what they are purchasing increases the sale price. Be sure to take the pictures in a well-lit area. Document any slight damages such as a scratch on the record itself, or writing on the album jacket. It is best that the buyer is aware of any flaws before purchasing the record, as this will help you avoid irate customers and returns.

    • 4

Determine a price for the record album. Some websites allow you to post a starting price and have people bid on your item to increase the sale price, while others allow you to offer a set price only.

    • 5

Set a time limit for the sale of the item. This is commonly a few days or a week, but on most sites you can select an option to keep the item available until it sells.

    • 6

Remember to read the fine print regarding fees you must pay once your album sells. Sites like eBay and Half.com deduct a selling fee before you receive your money through PayPal or other checkout system.

    • 7

Ship the item in a sturdy cardboard box and wrap it well with bubble wrap, foam sheeting or Styrofoam peanuts to protect it during shipping.
