How to Edit HTML in TextEdit

TextEdit is the default text editing application packaged with Apple computers to run on Mac OS X operating systems. It is a typical text editing application in that it allows basic modification of raw text files without styling elements such as font and page layout. HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language and is the default mode of communication on the World Wide Web. TextEdit is an adequate program for editing HTML documents.

      Locate the HTML file to be edited. All HTML files have a file extension that is either ".html" or ".htm."

      Right-click (or hold down the Control key and left-click) with the mouse on the file.

      Select the "Open With" menu item and select "TextEdit" in the list of applications that will appear.

      Make sure the file is formatted in plain text. In TextEdit, select the "Format" menu. If the HTML file is formatted in anything other than plain text, the menu will have an option to "Make Plain Text." Select this option if it is available.

      Make sure to save the file as ".html" or ".htm" once you are finished editing.
