How to Write a Good Campaign Speech

Writing a good campaign speech is important when candidates are running for office at any level--school, local, state or even national. It is important for the candidate to present his position with clear language, logical arguments and sincerity. Campaign speeches should follow the basics of speech writing, starting with an introduction that captures listeners' attention and states their position. Not only is it important to write a good speech but it is also important to practice it, so the candidate sounds natural and sincere.

Instructions

    • 1

Brainstorm the main points that you want to make during your campaign speech. Answer the question: what is important for you to convey to voters?

    • 2

Write the introduction, which needs to capture the attention of the voters and state the main theme of your speech. You can start with a personal story, a quote, a joke or even someone else's story. The important thing is the introduction sets the tone of the speech and prepares listeners for the rest.

    • 3

List your main points or positions in the body of your speech and then give examples to support each position. For example, if it is a campaign speech for student council president, one of the points may be to create more time between classes. The candidate should state examples of students who have not had enough time between classes and why this is important to increase the time.

    • 4

Use language that fits your audience. Do not purposefully use large words if the situation doesn't call for it. Talk to people like you are their friend and on their level. Voters want to get to know a candidate's personality through the campaign speech.

    • 5

Close the speech by stating why you are the best candidate and how you will improve voters' lives or situations if you are elected. Avoid cliches and empty promises that you cannot fulfill.
