You can send an email to a cell phone number within a matter of minutes. A cell phone that is capable of receiving an SMS can receive an email. An SMS, or short messaging service, is a text message of 160 characters or less than can be sent from a mobile phone. Depending on the recipient's cell phone type, they may be able to receive attachments as well. You do not need special equipment or software to send an email to a cell phone number. If you already use an email account, you can send an email to a cell phone number.
Step 1
Determine the mobile service provider of the cell phone you want to email.

Locate the mobile service provider's extension at the Outlook Express Versions and Updates website (www.oeupdates.com). The extension is the part following the @ in the mobile customer's email address. It is similar to an email account's domain name. For example, a Sprint customer's extension would be messaging.sprintpcs.com.
Step 3
Access your email account. If your email is web-based, access the email's site. If you use an email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird, open the program by clicking on the icon on the computer's desktop.

Log in to your email account by entering the user name and password in the appropriate fields. Click "Sign In" or "Log In."
Step 5
Click "Compose" or "New" to open a blank email message.
Step 6
Enter the email recipient's cell phone email address. The email address will be the recipient's cell phone number + the mobile service provider's extension. For example, a Sprint's customer email address would be 5555555555@messaging.sprintpcs.com.
Step 7
Enter a subject for the email in the appropriate field.
Step 8
Compose the email message in the body of the email.
Step 9
Click "Send" to send the email to the cell phone number.
