How to Find an Address Using a Post Code

A post code is a series of numbers and letters added to addresses to make sorting and delivering mail faster and more automated. Post codes are official postal codes similar to ZIP codes in the United States and are used by such countries as England and Australia. If you know the post code, it is possible to locate a corresponding address.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide which online resource will best suit your needs. In the United Kingdom, Royal Mail has an online website for looking up post codes, similar to the U.S. Postal Service site. In Australia, the Australia Post website has an address finder. There are other free online sites and some pay sites you can try. (See Resources.)

    • 2

Look at the post code that you need the corresponding address for. Click on the website's "Address Finder" tab, or a similarly named tab on the search page, and type in the entire post code. Click "Search."

    • 3

Review the list of results that match your search. If you have any additional information, such as a name, business name or partial street address, type it in to help limit the results.

    • 4

Type the resulting address or addresses into an online mapping program to get directions to the location or just to verify that this is the address you are searching for.

Tips & Warnings

  • Post codes must be entered in capitals. On an envelope, the post code is typed in capitals along with any appropriate numerals, and it's on a separate line from the rest of the address.
