Even if you've taken care of your device, it can start to look worse for wear after a few years. Fortunately, replacing your TracFone with a new model is easy. You can even keep your existing phone number and move your airtime to the new device. Buy a new phone online or at an authorized retailer.

Instructions

      Open your computer's Internet browser and go to TracFone's website at tracfone.com. Click the "Buy A TracFone Or Accessory" link near the right side of the page. Mouse over the "Buy Phones And More" option near the top of the page, and click "Buy Phones."

      Enter in the applicable ZIP code when prompted. This should be the ZIP code that corresponds with the area you will be using your phone the most. Click "Continue."

      Browse through available phones. When you are ready to purchase, click the "Add To Cart" button. Add accessories if desired, then click "Proceed To Cart" to choose your shipping method, enter in your name and shipping address and payment information. A signature is required if you choose to have your phone delivered via FedEx. Choose the USPS method if you are not available to sign for the package.

      Visit TracFone's "Activate" page to set up your new phone once it arrives. You may use the link in the Resources section. Click the "Transfer My Service And Phone Number From One TracFone To Another" option, then choose the make and model of your new phone before clicking "Submit." On the next page, choose the model of your current phone. Click "Submit."

      Follow the on-screen instructions to enter in your TracFone account information and input the serial number of your new phone. (This can be found on the new phone's packaging or on a sticker under the battery.) Once you have completed the request to transfer your service to a new phone, it can take three to 10 days before it is activated.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may also purchase a replacement phone at an authorized TracFone retailer. Visit the "Retailers" link near the bottom of TracFone's website and enter in your ZIP code to find a store near you. You will need to contact customer service or use the link in the "Resources" section to activate your phone with your existing number.

  • Contact TracFone's customer service department by phone if you do not wish to complete the service transfer online. It can be reached at 1-800-867-7183.
