Media player playlists may come in a number of formats; the more popular playlists include the M3U and ASX file types. VLC Media Player supports creating your own playlists or importing playlists used in other media players. Users can import XSPF, ASX, B4S and M3U play lists to VLC's main player, which can then be added to and saved, based on your needs.

Step 1

Visit Videolan.org and click the "Download VLC" button in the center of the page (see "Resources"). Wait for your download to finish. Run the ".exe" installation file to setup the application. Choose a location on your hard drive to save VLC Media Player to, agree to the terms of use and launch the program.

Step 2

Click the "Playlist" tab at the top of VLC's screen and select the "Load Playlist" option. Enter the "Open Playlist File" window.

Step 3

Locate the playlist file on your computer and click "Open." Your playlist will load in VLC's main program window. Highlight the first track you want to play and click the "Play" button in VLC's main interface.
