Most everyone enjoys smooth, moisturized and supple skin, and the regular use of a facial oil can help maintain this. Facial oils can be used in place of a moisturizer or heavy cream, or even used underneath them. They can also be used to cleanse the skin of dirt and impurities. The benefit of creating a facial oil is that you can adjust the ingredients to address your specific needs; so if you suffer from dry, sensitive skin, try creating a facial oil in the comfort of your own home, and to your personal liking.
Things You'll Need
- Glass bottles
- Glass/metal stirrer
- Pot of water
- Clean bowl
Prepare the Equipment
Gather all glass jars, bottles and stirrers that you will use to make and store your facial oil.
Boil a pot of water and insert jars, bottles and stirrers to kill all bacteria that may be upon them. Essential Oil Recipes suggests boiling them for 20 minutes to ensure they are sterilized.
Remove the items with tongs and let cool.
Create the Facial Oil
Gather all oils to be used. You can choose your oils based upon their skin benefits. Go to your local health food and supply store to examine the different types of oils and their benefits. Essential Oil Recipes suggests using avocado oil, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, jasmine, sandalwood and ylang ylang. According to The Oil Cleansing Method, a blend of Castor oil to a vegetable oil (olive, sunflower and so on) is a basic and deep-cleansing blend to rid the skin of impurities.
In a clean bowl, combine the oils of your choice. If you choose about four different oils, experiment with different amounts of each until you find the ratio you prefer. Essential Oil Recipes suggests 2 tbsp. of the avocado oil, 1 tbsp. of the jojoba oil, 1 tbsp. of the rosehip oil, three drops of jasmine, two drops of sandalwood and three drops of ylang ylang. The Oil Cleansing Method suggests a ratio of 30 percent Castor oil to 70 percent vegetable oil, or 20 percent Castor oil to 80 percent vegetable oil.
Using your sanitized stirrer, mix the oils together until uniform. Carefully pour the mixture into your prepared bottles. Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
