How to Set Ringback Tones

Ringback tones provide a method to personalize your phone.

Ringback tones--offered by many wireless communications providers--provide a fun option to customize your cell phone. Ringback tones are the sound callers hear when they dial your cell phone number. The tones come in a large variety, including song clips, celebrity voices or television show clips, for example. Wireless providers typically offer ringback tones for a subscription fee, which provides you with a license to use the media. The subscription may last anywhere from several months or until you end your service contract. You can access ringback tones through your carrier's music or entertainment service. To set ringback tones, you should have a compatible device, Internet access and a subscription plan.

Instructions

1. Log in to your carrier's online portal. Create an account or log in using your current credentials.

2. Click the "Entertainment," "Personalization" or "Ringback Tones" link. This should open a new window that offers a listing of available services. Search the page for "Ringback Tones" and click the link.

3. Click the "New Ringback Tones" or "Featured Ringback Tones." Alternatively, enter a search term--album, artist or television show, for example--and click the search button. Review the listing to find a ringback tone you like.

4. Click the link to the tone you selected. This opens a new page with price and purchase terms. Review the information, listen to a clip of the ringback tone and click "Purchase" if the selection suits you.

5. Click the "Account" link to review your active tones. Under account, locate and click the "Media" or "My Ringback Tones" link.

6. Click the radio button or other selection method next to the ringback tone. This will initiate the tone when callers dial your number. Click the "Save" button to keep your changes.

Tips & Warnings

• You can set the days and hours your ringback tone is in use. This prevents professional callers from hearing the tone during specified hours. Log in to your ringback account and adjust the settings accordingly. Save your changes to complete the process.
