How do I Install Hair Extensions?

For a natural look, add only enough hair to double your length.

Hair extensions add volume and length to your hairstyle. There are different kinds of extensions, but the easiest to install yourself is the clip-in type. Add your hair extensions without damaging your real hair and hiding the hair bonds. Whether adding real human hair or a synthetic blend, you can get a nice, professional look when you use the right hair products and methods. With some practice, you will be able to install and maintain your hair as it grows. You can take out your hair extensions and reinstall them as often as you like.

Things You'll Need

• Brush
• Scissors
• Alligator clips
• Clip-in extensions

Instructions

1. Brush your out your clean, dry hair. Separate the top 2/3 of your hair from the bottom and clip it up with an alligator clip. It may take more than one alligator clip to hold up your hair.

2. Remove the clip-in extensions from the packaging and cut away loose threads around the clip. Sometimes these threads are left during the sewing process.

3. Pop open the clip by pressing on the ends of the clip simultaneously. This will open the alligator comb that connects the hair.

4. Lay the open clip flush to your hair. The clip should be ½ inch from the scalp. If the clip is too tight, it will cause pain.

5. Press down on both ends of the hair clamp, securing it to the hair you sectioned off.

6. Pull another small 2- to 3-inch section from the hair clipped up on your head. Add another clip-in extension. Continue to pull down hair and add clips. Leave the top 1/3 of your hair unclipped. This portion will help hide the clips and camouflage your extensions.

7. Remove the alligator clips and arrange your hair.
