How to Make Roman Togas
Whether for a college party, a school project, a costume convention or Halloween, Roman togas are one of the most popular costumes for men and women. While Roman toga costumes can be purchased in stores, they can often be expensive. Thankfully, it's easy to make a Roman toga costume at home. Anyone with beginning sewing skills and the right materials can make a Roman toga for any person and any occasion in practically no time at all.
Things You'll Need
- 6 yards cotton fabric
- Fabric scissors
- Thread
- Sewing machine
- White pants
- White T-shirt
- Safety pin

Cut out a semi-circle of fabric that is six yards long at the base and five feet wide in the middle.

Fold over the edges of the fabric 1/2 inch and sew the folds in place, tucking the raw edge of the fabric under the seam as you sew.

Drape the toga over the left shoulder, with the flat edge of the fabric against the neck. Allow two thirds of the fabric to hang down the front of the body.

Bring the front piece of the toga up and around the right hip and over the left shoulder again.

Secure the toga in place with a safety pin on the left shoulder.

Pair the toga with white pants and a white t-shirt.
