How to Repair an Epson Stylus CX6400 Printer

The Epson Stylus CX6400 uses liquid to apply text and graphics to printer paper. The printer forces small droplets of ink out of the ink cartridges located inside the machine through an assembly of tiny nozzles called the print head. The printer moves paper uniformly with a series of rollers. Problems with either the printer's software or hardware can cause a number of difficulties, but you can potentially resolve the problem by troubleshooting the situation before you have the printer serviced by a professional.

Instructions

  1. Blurry Printouts

    • 1

Remove the paper you have been using from the input tray. Replace the paper with different paper from a package labeled "for use with ink jet printers."

    • 2

Ensure the printer is on a level surface. If the printer is tilted at all it can cause the ink to come out unevenly.

    • 3

Clean the print head. Make sure a single sheet of paper is in the input tray and that the "Error" light on the machine is not illuminated.

    • 4

Open the document you have been printing and click on "File." Select "Print" in the menu and make sure the CX6400 is selected in the top drop-down menu, then click on the "Properties" button.

    • 5

Click on the "Maintenance" tab in the new window, and click on "Head Cleaning." Wait as the printer performs the cleaning process.

    • 6

Perform the print head cleaning process up to 5 times. If you continue to experience blurry printouts, allow the printer to sit overnight.

    Paper Jams

    • 7

Select the "Color" button on the printer's control panel. Wait as the printer attempts to spit out the stuck paper.

    • 8

Retrieve any paper that comes out of the printer. Pull out any pieces of paper sticking out of the printer slowly, making sure you do not tear them.

    • 9

Turn off the printer. Open the printer's top cover and remove any paper inside, including small pieces that have torn from sheets of paper.

    • 10

Close the printer's top cover and turn the printer back on. Press the "Color" button once more so the printer dislodges any remaining pieces of paper.

    • 11

Take your printer to a repair shop if you continue to see the paper jam error.
