How to Rebuild a System Restore

How to Rebuild a System Restore thumbnail
Create a system restore point in case of an emergency.

A system restore point is a back-up of your registry files to the hard drive in case of an emergency. The system restore allows you to replace corrupted registry values from viruses or hard drive failure. You rebuild a system restore point by creating a new one in the Windows system restore utility. These restore points are saved in the utility. Creating several system restore points avoids the issue of a corrupted recovery point in the future.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click your "Computer" desktop icon and select "Properties." Click the "System Protection" link in the window that opens.

    • 2

Click the "System Protection" tab. Click the drive in the list of available system disks shown in the list box. Click the "Create" button.

    • 3

Enter a name for the new restore point. This name is shown in your list of restore point files, so create a name that is easily recognized. Click "Create" to rebuild your restore point file.
