The yo-yo is a unique building block used for making bed coverlets, tablecloths, pillow covers and the yo-yo doll. The yo-yo craze hit its peak during the 1930s and 1940s, when makers of the original yo-yo clown doll expanded their repertoire to yo-yo girl and boy dolls and yo-yo animals. By making your own pattern for a yo-yo dog, you can feature the elements of your favorite breed, adding specific ears, tails and coloring.
Things You'll Need
- 7 fat quarters of cotton fabric in assorted colors
- Compact disc
- Thin cardboard
- 1/8 yard muslin fabric
- Brown felt square
Place the compact disc on the cardboard and trace around it with a pencil.
Cut out the circle. This will be the pattern for 66 yo-yos, which will be used for the dog legs and body.
Draw an oval on the cardboard that is 4 inches high and 3 inches wide for the dog face. Cut out the oval for the face pattern.
Draw your choice of ear on the cardboard, either pointed or long and floppy. Cut out the ear for the pattern.
Draw your choice of tail on the cardboard and cut out the tail for a pattern.
