How to Close Unnecessary Programs at Startup on Windows XP

When Windows XP starts up after you log in, any programs that are set to run on startup are executed. If too many programs run when XP starts up, that can cause the machine to slow down dramatically. You can solve this problem by modifying the startup entries to prevent any unnecessary programs from starting with Windows XP.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," type "msconfig" and press "Enter."

    • 2

      Open the "Startup" tab.

    • 3

Uncheck the boxes next to the names of programs that aren't necessary to have start with the computer.

    • 4

Click "OK" and then "Restart Now" to restart the computer and watch the computer start up with the unnecessary programs disabled.
